Shushi Rocks
September 20th, 2007 by anush
The rock concert in Shushi, Nagornyy Karabakh, on Sept 16th was quite surprising and inspiring as well. The festival, organized by the Shushi Revival Fund, included four bands from Armenia and one from Shushi. As Narek Bambir said, the town was hungry for music, and for any social and cultural activity in general.
Shushi is a mystical town. I think it leaves this same impression on most of the people. The buildings are beautiful but most of them party ruined from the Karabakh liberation war.
The war ended in 1994 but the buildings still have not been reconstructed, let alone the fact that most of them cannot be reconstructed.
The huge church in central Shushi seemed to be the only building different from the others.
The rock festival itself took place on a wall that used to be a fortress.
Children were the first-comers, but later on the field in front of the wall was filled with all kinds of people, whom we couldn’t see during the day in Shushi, and almost thought the town was empty.
First to perform was a band from Shushi, called Shushi. It is newly formed and is quite dynamic, so hopefully they’ll move up.
The Bambir guys waited for their turn. Narek (in the front) was totally exited and jumped around with a bottle of beer in his hand.
Kids, as anywhere in farther regions, weren’t completely kind towards the rockers and made sure to joke around
Bambir performed quite well, this time again with their former drummer Ashot, but probably only for a short time.
The audience got quite exited in the end, and the musicians were thankful to the drivers who turned on the lights of their cars.
