Our New Year’s expressions

December 31st, 2007 by anush

When children sit next to the Snow White (ZyunAnushik) that I photographed, I think they lose the desire to see any Snow White any more. Just a joke, but anyway, I walked around the town today looking for things that represent our New Year’s spirit, and what my mind went looking for were silly things. Which is to say, on these days we finally get to get silly. The New Year’s tree in front of Cascade has a weird design, we may consider it silly or we may not (the last photo). And the crane machines decorated with New Year’s lights are definitely what should be photographed when looking for the silly. Anyway, here are the photos and no more comments.

Shoonch studio opens doors to yoga lovers

December 22nd, 2007 by anush

A friend of mine invited me several weeks ago to come to a free trial yoga class at the newly opened Shoonch yoga centre. Apart from that I kept seeing the really inviting brochure of this centre. I was doubtful, but the idea interested me, because this is the first such centre. So I decided to take some photos instead of taking part.

The destructive side of the construction and traffic in Yerevan

December 6th, 2007 by anush

For a long time now I’ve been wanting to post some photographs and write down generally popular outcries of displeasure concerning traffic in Yerevan.
Reasons are of course the construction, and partly because people are getting more cars, and streets remain the same.

The Bambir band with new drummer, new songs

November 29th, 2007 by anush

As another musical update, this one is about my favourite, the Bambir band. The good news about this band is that a new drummer has joined them, which resulted in a quick assembly of a one-hour program with new songs. This was greatly awaited, as I sometimes hear people complaining that they want new stuff, well here you go.

Reggae in Armenia

November 20th, 2007 by anush

The first Armenian reggae band Reincarnation presented its first CD on 17 November.
All people present looked really excited, and I could feel this particular proud that we’re opening ourselves to new styles. Roland is the leader of the band, his songs are in Armenian.

Ter-Petrosyan supporters stage second rally

November 18th, 2007 by anush

Once again opposition parties supporting the candidacy of Levon Ter-Petrosyan for president organized a rally on 16 November.
Ter-Petrosyan spoke from the stage on Freedom Square, from which Russian singer Dima Bilan and Armenian singers would perform the next day, a concert sponsored by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia.
The crowd reached more than 10,000, and here are some photographs from the mood there. Armenian Observer has covered the speech.

The Pre-election Breakfast of the Beggars of Our Times

November 11th, 2007 by anush

Among all events connected with the forthcoming presidential election in February, the most interesting for me has been the play of the Theatre for Changes group on 9 November. This interactive theatre performance called Pre-election Breakfast caused quite a number of people present to be active and give solutions to problems discussed in the play.
Another performance by the same group, the Honorable Beggars of Our Times, took place several months ago, was more comical.

Ter-Petrosyan to run for president, and more…

October 27th, 2007 by anush

The hope of the people gathered on Freedom Square on 26 October to cheer for Levon Ter-Petrosyan came true as he announced that he will run for presidency again in 2008. The joint rally of oppositional leaders Aram Sargsyan, Stepan Demirchyan and first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan gathered around 10,000 people, enough to cover the whole square. A simultaneous concert half and hour away from the Freedom Square was a contrast to this event.

Bangladesh in Yerevan against poverty

October 21st, 2007 by anush

crowd watching concert
First of all, apologies for all the lost information and comments, but we are starting over and things will be fine I’m sure.

Last Wednesday on Oct 17 an event was organized finally away from the centre of Yerevan. In the South-Western district of Yerevan, which we call Bangladesh, the Stand Up and Speak Up call gathered people from several regions of Armenia and Yerevan. The amount of people present surprised me.
