Drone prize shooting

May 14th, 2008 by sephia karta

Every so often it seems, mysterious incidents involving flying object happen in the conflict zones, and usually, the sides involved vehemently disagree about what happened. International investigations are announced but these are either not heard from again or they come up with inconclusive results. The latest such events involve the unmanned spy planes, or drones, that the Georgian side says it uses to monitor Abkhazian and Russian troop movements. Every week or so the Abkhazian side claims to have shot down one or two and so far, except in one instance, the Georgian side has denied this. It claims that only in one case, a drone was shot down, by the Russians, not the Abkhazians, and that the other claims are made only to cover this up. It seems that this cannot continue forever. If the Abkhazians continue to report drone downings, then there will come a day when one side’s account is exposed as false. If the Abkhazian side is right, this could be uncomfortable for the Georgians, because it means that the Abkhazians were free to shoot down Georgian military equipment worth lots of $$ per piece at liberty.

In fact, Saakashvili also added that the plane that downed the *only* drone also bombed the reknown Ganmukhuri village as well. — I wonder why no one reminds him of that… Well, with much of the media controlled, he may say whatever he wishes…

I wonder what is that UN mission in Abkhazia doing altogther? They must have the capacity to determine who shot down a plane and who didn’t - its the 21st century. Without a referee in that conflict area, such things will keep on taking place - maybe next time it will be something with the ships, who knows..

Saakasvili is quoted on the official georgian government website saying that georgia has bought 40 uavs. I wonder who actually paid for this?

Curious considering the massive opposition riots late last year against his inability or ignorance of poverty an conditions for a large portion of the Georgian population.

Why spend money on butter when you can spend it on guns?!

As for dubious claims by the Abkhaz, they are hardly more dubious than the regular claims made by the Georgian government of discoving ‘plots’ against Georgia, left, right and center by the Russians. One of their most fanciful claims was that a sam tied to a tree was proof of an attempt of political assassination… Very Laurel and Hardy…
