how did the war start after all and what happened there?

here is an interview with a human rights worker who visited South Ossetia during war (in Russian).

For current affairs discussions and heated debates, a highly recommended blog is http://cyxymu.livejournal.com/

Media Wars and Blocked Information
- Caught in the Crossfire

I found the same article above on another posting about cyber attacks on an unrelated website to the Khurcha Incident and wonder if there is any connection why this site is often difficult to access, at least in Georgia. TOL is one of the few sites where I have been able to find actually trustworthy information about Georgia.

Cyberattacks Crippling and Defacing Georgian and Ossetian Web Sites

http://www.ilovebonnie.net/2008/08/08/cyberattacks-crippling-and-defacing-georgian-and-ossetian-web-sites/

[UPDATE]: This has been picked up in the mainstream news and covered in much more detail on other sites. Wired.com has a particularly good description of the attacks, including many other links, here.

In the recent conflict that has broken out between Georgia, Russia and South Ossetia, a different kind of war has been waging. There has been a series of cyberattacks against various Georgian websites including news agencies and governmental organizations.

The information is appearing on the wikipedia article as more information becomes available. Many of the websites involved in the attacks are unavailable.

Here are the hacks known to be associated with the conflict:

2 Ossetian news sites hacked by Georgian officials to cover up news.
Georgian National Bank website defaced
Many Georgian news portals are unavailable
Georgian Ministry of Foreign affairs website defaced
These are only the reported attacks thus far. The website defacing that has occurred is usually in the form of comparing the Georgian President Saakashvili to Adolf Hitler. This is an image that was grabbed from the main website of the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mfa.gov.ge) before it was taken down:

These attacks are reportedly very similar to the ones that occurred in the 2007 cyberattacks on Estonia.

What is actually going on when it comes to real information in Georgia, is it the Georigan government that is blocking - or outsiders?

Sad situation. Russia's worry is N.A.T.O, it is mistaken
to think it can contain Georgia, or any former vasal nation. slowly it'l see it's opened pandoras box.
there is already massive economic sactions on russia(which makes me sad)and pressure on kremlin.
(when you'v got most of the planet mad, you'l be sorry?)
whats needed imeadeatly ,is to get food ,and clothing, and aid to the people trapped by this.. failure to allow aid by russia will result in very, very long and serious consequences for any ambitions held by Moscow to paticipate in any thing. NO >W.T.O, G8, NO trade with
U.S.A, nor most of Europe, wealthy russians visting other countries will be unwelcome, etc.. SO,IF I WAS
RUSSIA, IN GEORGIA? I'D be GETTING MY ASS OUT>>
