A Roma Spokesman for the Government
June 21st, 2007 by robertnemeth
The Hungarian government has two new spokespersons. So what, could many say, they change quite often. But, one of them is a young, female political analyst, and the other one is Roma.

Dávid Daróczi is 35 years old and has worked for the communicational team of the Prime Minister for two years, he was the leader of the Office of the Spokesperson. Before this, he was a journalist; he worked for example for Radio C, a radio for Roma, where he was the editor-in-chief. In an interview with RomNet he said: it is great that Hungary has a Roma spokesperson, but this was not an aspect in the selection.
Nevertheless, he is not the only Roma who got a high position recently in Hungary. The new ombudsman of minority and ethnic rights, elected a few weeks ago, is a Roma sociologist, Ernő Kállai. And Hungary has two Roma MEPs as well, one in the European People’s Party and one in the liberal faction.
