Russians will experiment with online voting

November 5th, 2007 by jibs

The head of the Central Election Commission Vladimir Churov supports running an experiment on online voting.

In all European countries the youth increasingly demands to vote through Internet. To have a right to vote online. I receive messages on my blog in live journal, and sometimes read from others’ blogs saying “I protest. I won’t vote until I can do it online”.

Churov admits skepticism towards Internet voting, but acknowledges the importance emerging politically active youth. He says that by the end of the next year, an experimental online voting will be tried during the local elections.

In Estonia, a former Soviet republic, the this practice has been taking place since 2005.
